Hovawart

  Origins

Hovawart is an ancient German origin's dog, and for some experts would come down from the molossoidi joints in Europe with Barbarian nomadic populations of Asia. The first testimony written on the Hovawart laughed them to 1230 in the work "Sachsenspiegel" of Eike Von Repgow. In the 1473 Hovawart was described from Musinger as a dog very adapted for the guard. In the Evo Mean the Hovawart was already used like house and herds guardian and in the boar-shooting.

Its name derives just from a language spoken in the Wurttemberg zone in which "Hova" it meant "Court" and "Watcher" "Guardian". Towards the end of XIX century the Hovawart was nearly completely extinct, but thanks to the passion of a small group of German dog-lover the race came completely recovered and in 1936 officially recognized from the FCI.

  A good choice

Hovawart is a very sociable dog, it adores man's company and loves to play with the members of the family in which it lives: it is particularly sweet and careful with the children.

As it says the name, it is an optimal guardian dog. Very intelligent, learns in a hurry and it's a great "worker". Hovawart is used also like avalanche-dog, anti-drug dog (it has extraordinary smell) and like blind-guide.

Hovawart is a peasant dog, resistant to the inclemencies (adores the rain and to roll itself in the snow) and to the hards work (in the Nordic countries is used like sled-dog).
